Hacienda Bacoc is an old sisal plantation located 3 miles from the Village of Seye and 20 miles approx from the City of Merida in Yucatan, Mexico. The property consists of slightly more than 200 acres and various buildings dating back as far as the early 19th century. Approximately 15 acres have been cleared and contain the nucleus of the old hacienda with old walls, a former sisal factory, a large building by a pond, gatehouse and the main house. The main house was designed by renown Mexican architect, Salvador Reyes Rios starting 3 years ago and was voted the best new residential construction in all of Mexico by AD Mexico in 2011. The house consists of two pavilions connected by a covered terrace area and is built upon a preexisting platform. The materials and proportions of the house play homage to traditional colonial architecture in their sizes, heights and materials but at he same time reflect a completely modern idea of living. One pavilion contains the living room, kitchen and office as well as powder room and the other pavilion has three bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms. Continuing the sight line of the hall areas of both pavilions is the infinity pool that appears like a reflecting pond. The house has sliding doors everywhere that disappear into the walls that are on average 9 or 11 feet high and ceilings from 14 to 16 feet in the majority of rooms. The covered terrace functions as an outdoor living room and dinning space and incorporates a ruined farm building which houses an orchid collection and is the focal point of a meandering pond. Above the kitchen is a chill out for stargazing and relaxation and below a basement storage area, extra bathroom and large laundry area. All water, electric, septic and air-conditioning etc use imported materials and machinery and are of top European and American quality.
Further building include a partially renovated pond house with indoor garden room and space for two more bedrooms. The old factory is still awaiting restoration and would make a very large second family home or hotel facility. The gate house has one bedroom and is completely equipped for a live in couple and three traditional "Casas Mayas" have been restored. The chapel has been re-roofed and is in very good condition. A newly rebuilt potting shed and three car carport complete the property
The grounds have been transformed into a private botanical garden and contain more than 60 palm species alone as well as a multitude of flowering trees and shrubs, a citrus grove, and orchid collection. There are numerous fountains and ponds as well as an automatic watering system. More than 2 miles of stone walls divide garden zones and the perimeter of the property.
